A New Sacred Order: England Reimagined
A contemplation of what an idealised future could look like for England and Europe
A subscriber here made the excellent suggestion for me to articulate an idealised future England to clarify the vision of my work and to emphasise what we’re ultimately aiming towards.
Before I embark on this endeavour, a few important points:
I’m speaking of England here, as I and many followers are English, yet these ideas could broadly apply to most European/Western nations
I’m aware I’ve stated in the past that geographical borders may well be redrawn in the future, and I still believe this to be true, so do remember this piece isn’t a literal prediction, but an idealised version of the future
I’m aware it’s ironic of me to be utopian, I’m fully aware that spiritually and politically, the world can never be perfect, but this is more of a free-form contemplation to explore ideas and goals
This is a bit of fun, primarily. Yes, I believe all herein, but it’s not a political manifesto, more an open contemplation
Vital Tradition
As a traditionalist, I believe a given people’s cultural practices, religious beliefs, norms and values—their tradition—act as their backbone. The tradition is the ordering dynamic that brings harmony to the chaos of nature.
Further, I believe that while differing groups may have a shared religious belief system (Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc.), this doesn’t necessarily mean they share the same tradition. Every group has a unique make-up, background and spirit, meaning that while a religion may be the ‘same’ between differing groups, the expression and practice of that religion is unique.
The examples within Christianity are endless, but suffice to say, it’s not a coincidence that Jamaican Pentecostalism differs from English village Anglicanism; the former famed for its ebullience, the latter its gentleness.
A Revitalised Tradition
With the above in mind, the ideal tradition consciously affirms its transcendent spirituality, its religious dogma and its unique ethno-cultural expression. As I’ve said before, this may be why I yearn for the old Anglican tradition—the church of T.S. Eliot and C.S. Lewis. Alas, that tradition is all but gone in a sea of woke corruption and worldly liberalism.
Yet in an ideal world, it’s more than just the national and cultural that needs to be reawakened, but the essence of tradition itself, which is in the turn away from the crude material world and towards the transcendent. Toward the great Spirit beyond form, the Source of all, the ‘Unmoved Mover’ in Aristotelian language. In Christian language, this is the Father in whom we have our being.
This is so essential because modernity traps Western man via its focus on the material; it cages him in the notion that all there is to him is mind and intellect, and this is the precursor to ‘enlightenment rationalism’, the notion that the sciences can answer our deepest needs.
Many a European great has tried to save Western man from this trap: Dostoyevsky, William Blake, Nietzsche, Hiedigger, the aforementioned T.S. Eliot (the list goes on), yet the insane, intense magnetic pull of the world and its infinite promise of pleasure, the fool’s gold of materialism, has Western man locked in its devouring grip.
It’s a fair criticism that European man, especially English man, has played into this dynamic with his hyper-rationality that breeds so much incredible technological advancement, but takes his soul.
This is why our future idealised tradition must be rooted in the Spirit, the wisdom before and beyond the mind; this saves us from the state of decay emanating from crude materialism and correctly structures the Spirit, soul, and mind in harmony.
To return to Eliot once more: “Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?”
In conclusion, the details on the ground will work themselves out so long as we overcome the pride of the intellect, the corrosion of materialism and the manipulation of the merchant. In doing this, we can return to the teachings of elders, who can root a future England in the spiritual waters of wisdom, order, balance and transcendent love.
Devotion & Initiation
With a solid tradition in place, we can begin that most essential, paramount and powerful practice for men—initiation into the tribe, tradition and sacred order.
I imagine I’m not alone in feeling great sorrow for the modern men of the West. Most remain comatose in a world of pleasure-seeking and meaninglessness, their hearts never truly awakening to divine purpose and meaning. Yet, I feel still more sorrow for the many men now waking up, sensing deeply that something is missing, and when they search for roots and guidance, get led on wild goose chases by merchants, or back into the promises of the world.
Andrew Tate is a fine example here. I’m sure he offers some helpful guidance to young men on toughening up and getting off their backside, yet in the service of what? Money and materialism? Promiscuity and degeneracy?
Jordan Peterson is, or was, markedly better. He gave men a deeper sense of meaning, something rooted in a realignment with tradition in the spiritual desert of modernity, a bittersweet reason to bravely face nihilism and the decay it births. Yet, truth be told, Peterson himself is not truly a believer, at least not yet, and still refuses to give up the brilliance of his mind for the wisdom beyond.
In this sense, Peterson reminds me of the rich man who desires to follow Christ, yet cannot sacrifice his worldly power.
However, in more recent years, Peterson has focused less on guiding the young men of the West and instead has become something of a neo-con figure. He often chastises men who disagree with him politically and seems to promote a sort of Zionist political philosophy that orders Western men to pledge loyalty to the state of Israel, rather than the ‘New Israel’, which is the Christian tradition itself.
The above said, Peterson still played an incredibly important role in opening the door of tradition to Western men, yet in an ideal England, we’d take this very much to the next level (and then some).
Traditions are deep and vast. At times, they are hard to understand because they go beyond the realm of the intellect and into the spiritual and symbolic world. They speak to the non-rational elements of life: blood, kin, tribe, spirit, love, war, peace, existence itself.
Men do not align with such powerful forces by sitting alone in a university backroom, thinking and philosophising. They don’t grasp these essential truths in YouTube videos, nor from a neo-trad’s Substack ramblings! In honesty, they don’t even get introduced to these core powers of life in church any longer, at least for the most part.
Men get these truths through initiatory journeys, something I’ve written on to some extent in the past:
The central theme of initiation is threefold:
The initiate moves from boy to man,
He goes from the mother’s world (freedom) to the father’s (responsibility), and finally
He goes from Mother Earth (materialism) to Father Spirit (the metaphysical)
Such initiatory processes are vital in creating men who don’t just adhere to a given tradition, but ultimately are that tradition manifest. The famed initiation expert Robert Moore put it as follows:
“The initiated man does not merely imitate the tradition—he becomes its living representative. He carries its sacred energy in his bones.”
In an ideal future England, initiation, which involves challenge, fear and often pain by necessity, would be a key, perhaps the key, experience of a man’s life. Initiation renders him part of the tribe, the wise elder in the making to save society from hell in whatever way he must.
As you may imagine, the aim here isn’t to create disciplined men, but devoted men, the difference being that devotion is discipline blended with love. One is disciplined by cold necessity, but the other is inspired by heart, blood, spirit, service, and love.
While initiation is fundamentally about masculine and spiritual initiation, there are also more specialised initiations into the core sacred masculine energies of life. Those being namely the King, the Warrior, the Magician and the Lover. While men usually have a natural aptitude for one or two—and should be mindful to achieve competence in each area—initiation and specialisation in one is vital in creating fine men serving their natural purpose with heart and distinction.
Big, loving families
The intact, stable family and the dynamics therein reflect both divine order and worldly stability. The father—ideally initiated, responsible, protective, loving and wise—leads the family. His role, consistent with the yang masculine universal force, is to go out into the world, to expand and secure resources, while at home, bringing stability, logic and light.
The idea for a man isn’t to be a tyrant, as decades of feminist brainwashing has convinced many a millennial, but to lead in love and duty, creating a safe and stable home which in turn fosters a safe and stable society.
While many women of modernity are neck deep in the dream of being a girl boss, the truth is that feminine energy craves the authentic, wise leadership of masculine energy. A woman simply won’t respect a man if he doesn’t exhibit these qualities to some degree, and certainly won’t procreate with him. For that, a woman must admire a man.
The Christian tradition has a beautiful expression of the order of the family, see below, that neatly summarises my points here. But do remember, true it may be that many men have acted like tyrants, and a future tradition needs to place a high burden on such behaviour, the Biblical order itself is not rooted in tyranny, but love and divine reflection:
The effects of the breakdown of traditional relationships are obvious when looking at modern society. We see a rise in self-centredness, a rise in destructive ideologies, a rise in STIs, rises in anxiety and depression, rises in a sense of meaninglessness, and most importantly, a collapse in birth rates which can only be supposedly remedied by infinite importations from the third world.
Collectively, this has led to the destruction of the West, and let’s be honest, women lost in the girl boss fantasy (that leaves them used and lonely by 40) and men lost in the pleasure fantasy will not be easy to win over. They will always choose pride and pleasure in their present spiritual state.
Yet, this is where decline offers a silver lining. As things begin to fall apart and Europe becomes ever more dangerous and violent, as it becomes clear that the wonderful utopian liberal ideologies create hell rather than heaven, men and women will be looking for security and answers. We must be ready not to mock and judge (a period of healing and repentance will be necessary for all wounded by modernity) these prodigal sons and daughters, but guide them back to sanity, hope and loving order.
If this can be achieved, though low in numbers, our hearts will be like iron.
Strong, Self-Sustaining Communities
This is a huge area, so it makes sense to break each area down into bite-sized chunks:
Votes
I believe votes are better counted via family than individually. What, after all, does a person have to vote for who has no stake in the future? And yes, that family vote should be cast by the patriarch.
My reasoning for this position is that women are more emotional, mothering and compassionate by nature. This means they are more prone to manipulation via ideology, and more inclined to vote in favour of parties and philosophies that undermine the West itself. I believe the majority do this out of misplaced compassion rather than malice, yet if you look at voting patterns in the Western world, women consistently vote for leftist/liberal candidates who promote mass immigration and woke ideology, while men vote conservative.
Perhaps my greatest reason for this position is that a mother voting left and a father right (or vice versa) splits the psyche of a child, who feels s/he has to decide between the parents’ worldviews. The child is left assuming cohesion is absent within the family and, in the mould of modernity, sees relations between the genders not as complementary, but conflicting.
Within such a system, regional parliamentary representation under the auspices of a royal seems the English way.
Crime and Punishment
Yet to protect the sanctity of the whole, there should be strong, decisive punishments for transgressive behaviour, and capital punishment for crimes of an extremely violent or abusive nature. Such lines aren’t drawn for reasons of brutality, but civility. As we experience in the West now, if ill-intentioned elements face no threat, if they can commit crime without punishment, they will do so liberally.
Firm boundaries not only protect the community and the stability of the whole, but also cause potential criminals to consider their actions very carefully. By its very nature, such an approach will slash prison numbers and commit potential wrongdoers to a more productive life path. In essence, would-be criminals would fear prison and not want to risk it.
The above said, for criminals in the system, while their crimes must be paid for by hard work for the community (building infrastructure, factory work, etc.), there should always be a path towards spiritual and social redemption, as well as tools aimed at rehabilitation and becoming a productive member of society. Ex-cons who commit to such paths and show sincere growth should be respected and heralded as good men, perhaps even given paths to train other lost souls.
Economy & Geopolitics
While this piece is more free-form utopian, there are limits to this. For instance, I have to be mindful of geopolitics, empires and global markets. The demand for resources only certain regions have is inescapable, for instance.
That said, I believe a wariness of the market and its corroding effects is wise. This doesn’t mean no engagement with it, and we’d have to align with a power structure(s) that offer us greater geopolitical stability—ideally, this would be the rest of a reawakened Europe and other regions worth aligning with (Eurasia, South America, potentially parts of Asia and the Middle East). Of course, this would demand efforts at making peace where possible, and being ready to defend what we must when we must to show we have teeth.
But in terms of pure economics, I favour something like distributism, an economic philosophy rooted in Catholic social teaching that advocates for the widespread distribution of property and productive assets—such as land, tools, and businesses—to as many individuals and families as possible, rather than concentrating wealth in the hands of the state or a few large corporations.
Having read a bit of G.K. Chesterton (a famous English Catholic proponent of distributism), it seems to me that the system emphasises the importance of small-scale ownership to promote economic justice, personal dignity, and social stability. It aims to be a “third way” alternative to both unregulated capitalism and socialism, arguing that true freedom and community flourishing arise when people have a tangible stake in their work and livelihoods.
In essence, the system enables families and communities to be the economic and moral backbone of society.
This may seem fanciful, but I believe a strong leader with a cohesive nation of people pulling together can do great things. After all, humans will give 100% more for their family, nation and God than they will some soulless corporation that’ll replace them with someone else/AI in a heartbeat.
Awaken the soul of the Englishman, and you enliven the economy.
Environment & Animals
While environmentalism has become something of a byword for radical communism in late modernity, its essence remains a pure one. We should, to my mind, seek to love and respect our nature. We should, where possible, try to harness green power and sustainability. A line here must be struck between idealism and practicality, yet I think finding that line is possible if we have a cohesive nation.
Further, given the focus on initiation into nation, tribe and spirit, as we move out of the hyperreal world and back towards the earth, an awakening to the rhythms of nature seems inevitable.
Animals are another dimension similar to this. Factory farming and the cruelty therein are unjust. There’s no defending it. For a just land, we must respect animals where possible, and if necessary, go vegetarian on certain days to ensure livestock are treated with respect and dignity, with space to roam in life, while being slaughtered with efficiency and obliviousness in death.
Animal proteins are vital for humans, especially growing children, so we need such produce. Yet such produce would ideally be from healthy animals that’ve lived happy lives. Asking people to miss meat for a couple of days a week may seem crazy to the modern mind that wants everything at its fingertips, yet if we’re committed to our tradition (which often demands meatless or fast days anyway) and willing to make sacrifices for a better life for all, animals included, I believe it’s not just possible but desirable.
Sports & physical wellbeing
As mentioned in a recent video, sport is a wonderful part of English history and culture. It’s brilliant (or was brilliant) at imparting solid values such as teamwork, discipline, persistence, patience, courage and more. It also offers a path to meaningful regional identity. Such things are invaluable in healthy societies, and all sports should be promoted due to this.
My breaking point is when these sports veer into degeneracy: diving and cheating, treating women like men, promoting gay race communism. Of course, in an ideal England, such things would not exist, but if they rear their head, they would be met with mockery, derision and scorn, and potential bans.
Physical health should be an important dimension, with young men being aided in any and all ways possible in their development, especially. Warrior initiation would be a wonderful tool for young men, too. Basic nutritional knowledge should be a must, and all families should be aided in securing allotment space to grow vegetables, fruits and so on at home.
As with all things, self-sustenance should be a core theme.
National identity & mythology
Perhaps it goes without saying, but a strong national identity is vital. One that celebrates national character, national mythology, and key events of the year.
Such an understanding would begin in education, youngsters should know the vibrant history of their ancestors (the good and the bad), where their forebears came from and where they’re going, the great traditions of the nation (theatre, literature, religions, history, science and more), as well as the traditions and achievements of our fellow Europeans.
If we do not strive to keep such things alive, then they wither and die.
Finally, I’d personally like to see a more traditionalist understanding of politics and civilisations. The left, being spiritually feminine, values softness, compassion, care for the needy in its light expression, yet its dark expression produces chaos, manipulation, and corrosion. The right-wing masculine can create order, balance, justice, truth and beauty, yet in its shadow form, tyranny, destruction, and cruelty.
Both represent vital forces, yet the key is in how we balance such things—that is the trick of tradition, culture, and a New England.
Good job if you read this far! Thanks for sticking around. As I say, this piece was a bit of fun more than anything else. But do let me know your thoughts if you wish.
